How to Support Black Owned Businesses

Imagine that there are literal posts and videos where people are justifying the fact that they DO NOT support black owned businesses. Now while we can agree that in many areas and cultures, customer service is lacking, we cannot agree on this issue being a racial issue. Therefore, we DO and we MUST support black owned businesses.

Sadly, it was reported that the lifespan of a dollar in the African-American community is approximately six hours. Can you imagine that? What does that mean for us, or for you as a black entrepreneur?

Firstly, realize that we are spending more money on brands that are owned by another race, much faster than we spend on our black community brands.

According to The State of Working America, Black people spend 4 percent more money annually than any other race despite the fact that they are the least represented race and the race that lives in poverty at the highest rate.

If current economic trends continue, the average Black household will need 228 years to accumulate as much wealth as their white counterparts hold today.

How can you break the cycle?

Start by supporting black owned businesses today!

1. Like, Share, Comment, Subscribe

It does not cost you even 1 cent to support by being active on a business owner's social media page etc. Not even 1 cent, but yet why? We often share large brands or companies that has more than enough in their marketing budget to reach thousands if not millions. Can you share your friend's page to show some support, a young black entrepreneur page to boost their confidence, or just a random black owned business with a great product, but at a disadvantage in popularity, to give them much needed encouragement??? It wouldn't cost a dime!

2. Purchase and Write Honest Reviews

If you are looking for a particular product, why not check on some black owned businesses first, then of course purchase it, for full price that is being currently offered.

Then please, do not stop there. Write a review, be honest, if you loved that product, then great! If you didn't, then give your critique so that this business owner can now work on improving, thus gaining more experience to bring you a better product and to be more equipped as a strong competitor in their industry.

3. Going a Step Further

Did you really love the product and the service you received? Share the word and tell your friends so that they too can support that business.

Take photos, tag their business page and help them grow!

Again, this one does not cost you a dime. It shows you care about building your black community up!

We are in this together!

Business owners please provide GREAT customer service, also try to be reasonable with your pricing and finally look for products that will last or do what you say that they would do!

Customers please show your support in those 3 ways that were mentioned earlier.

Let's change the narrative and let us do what it takes to support black owned businesses today!
